M. Jean Cooper Scholarship

M. Jean Cooper (see photo) was a prominent member and leader of the Atlanta Chapter. The chapter honors her legacy with the M. Jean Cooper Scholarship, which supports graduating high school seniors with scholarship awards.

In addition to our many service programs, the Atlanta Chapter has awarded over $65,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors from across the metro Atlanta area. Applicants must meet the following criteria: 

  • Be a graduating high school senior from a Metro Atlanta high school and attending college for the first time

  • Be accepted into a four-year college or university

  • Submit a complete application, including an essay and all required documents

Juanita Watts-Byrd Essay Contest

The Juanita Watts Byrd Essay Contest is offered annually by the Atlanta Chapter and the entire Southeast Region Continental Societies chapters. The contest is designed to promote, encourage, and reward excellent literacy writing skills among middle-school students who reside in the Southeastern Region. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a Middle School student (grades 6th, 7th, and 8th)

  • Write a persuasive essay explaining the assigned topic

  • Produce an that is between 500 - 750 words

  • Return a submitted essay and entry form to atlantacontinentals@gmail.com by the stated deadline

Cash prizes will be awarded to winners of the Atlanta Chapter's implementation of the Juanita Watts Byrd Essay Contest.

Annual Coat Drive

For over 20 years, the Atlanta Chapter has conducted an Annual Coat Drive, providing new coats, hats, scarves and gloves to school children in need in the metro Atlanta area.

Our annual coat drive donations are funded through our fundraising efforts and strategic partnerships with individual community members and groups that wish to support our work. Our collective efforts make a tangible difference in the lives of the students we serve, ensuring they stay warm during the winter season.
