The Atlanta Continentals

Continental Societies, Inc.® is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) international service organization founded in 1956 by a group of energetic and dedicated service-oriented women. These women structured an organization to foster, promote, and develop the welfare of underserved children & youth. Through our Five-Point Programmatic Thrust in the areas of Health, Education, Employment, Recreation (H.E.E.R.) plus the Arts & Humanities, Continental women nationally and internationally strive to adhere to the humanitarian precept of sharing with those in need. As a national organization, we serve over a quarter of a million children and youth annually.
The Atlanta Chapter was inducted into the Societies on November 21, 1973. Forty-one outstanding women of varied professional backgrounds—representing noble character and unrelenting determination—pledged to work for underserved children and youth in the Metropolitan Atlanta area.

Our work continues today as we execute programs via the H.E.E.R. programmatic thrust plus Arts & Humanities with various partners; including schools, after-school programs, and community organizations. In addition to our many service programs, our chapter has awarded over $65,000 in scholarships to graduating high school seniors from the metro-Atlanta area.
Our chapter fostered two spin-off chapters: College Park/East Point Chapter and Decatur/Stone Mountain. On March 30, 1988, we sponsored the Greater Miami Chapter. The current Atlanta Chapter president is Chalanda L. Tucker. Past Atlanta Chapter presidents include: Marjorie Wolfe Ushery*, Juanita Price*, Alice King, Theodosia Ross*, Jean Cooper*, Jeanne Byrd*, Patricia Miller, Ethel White, Nancy Hope, Gwendolyn G. Conley*, Terry B. Woods*, Jean Cooper*, Chalanda L. Tucker, LaShanda R. Dawkins, Esq., and Tara Sorrell.
Atlanta Continentals have supported and participated in various programs including campership for inner-city youth, coat drives, funds to meet clothing & book needs for college-bound youth, scholarships, cultural ventures, Christmas parties for needy children, health fairs, employment training, and more. Continentals volunteer their time to work in schools, hospitals and homes for delinquent youth as well as homes for the intellectually disabled, and emotionally troubled youth.
